Times Square Visitor’s Guide: Shows, Sights, Hotels and Getting Around

Times Square puts Broadway, Restaurant Row, the Hudson River piers and Midtown's museums within a few blocks — and puts

Broadway and the Theater District

The Theater District runs roughly from West 41st to West 54th Street, between Sixth and Eighth Avenues. Most evening performances start at 7 or 8 p.m., and every show lets out at about the same time, so West 44th and 45th Streets fill with people and cars around 10 to 11 p.m.

The easy way: book an hourly car for dinner and the show. Your chauffeur drops you at the theater, waits nearby, and texts you where to meet — usually a block away from the busiest curb.

Restaurants before the curtain

Restaurant Row — West 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues — is built for pre-theater dining, with Hell’s Kitchen’s restaurants spreading west along Ninth Avenue. Book dinner at least 90 minutes before curtain.

Cruise departures

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal sits on the Hudson between West 46th and 54th Streets — typically 10 to 20 minutes from a Times Square hotel. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook is typically 30 to 50 minutes. Book a pickup that leaves time for luggage drop and check-in, and choose a Premium SUV or Sprinter for cruise luggage.

Sports and concerts

Madison Square Garden is 10 to 20 minutes south. Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Barclays Center and MetLife Stadium are all within an hour. See our guide to car service for NYC sports.

Where to stay

Hotels in and around Times Square include The Chatwal, The Knickerbocker and New York Marriott Marquis, with Park Hyatt New York, The Peninsula and Baccarat Hotel a short drive north. See car service for NYC hotels.
